Fish Gate Assignment Recap

The Fish Gate assignment was one of opening a gate and inviting the Lord to send into the city the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord and a spirit of repentance that would bring the people of City Name into the knowledge of the saving grace of God and Christ Jesus. We are asking for the great harvest as in the days of Nineveh when Jonah preached and the whole city repented and was saved.

Our beliefs concerning this Fish Gate:

  • It is a gate to be opened
  • We are to request that God send forth the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord
  • We seek also a spirit of repentance to fall upon City Name
  • We desire to see a great harvest for the Kingdom of God

The location had been determined to be the north end of the parking lot near the construction site of the new Church Name, the bank, and the gas station/store. This area is where church and business are both represented. It is at the western entrance into City Name, just inside the city limits. We were on Highway Name, just west of the spot that Main Street drops into the city, a crossroads of sorts. Church, business and residential are all in view from this vantage point. It is on or very near to the spot where evangelistic tent meetings of the past had been held. It is near the River Name, the Park Name, section 8 apartments, standard housing neighborhoods, and upper level town homes. The city is truly represented at this spot. It is on high ground; if not the high spot in City Name, it must be very close to it.

This gate is about new life, resurrection life. It is about fishers of men transforming a city. Of course we know that Jesus said, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:44) So we ask the Father to draw all in City Name to His Son. We look forward to the great harvest in City Name. We look for the veil of the enemy to be lifted from the eyes of the people that they may see and for the ears to be opened that they may hear.

The Work at the Gate

Five people gathered in the lower level of the meeting place: Darryl, Roberta, Wallace, Richard and Duke. It was 6:15 PM when we began as we had waited for a couple of others who had evidently been deterred from attending this evening.

We first spent a bit of time in prayer with thanksgiving and praise as we sought wisdom and guidance in carrying out this assignment that had been laid before us. The presence of God was very noticeable and we were also thankful for all those that were praying for us. We were excited by the news of new intercessors going before the Throne of God on our behalf.

We talked about all that led up to this evening and the confirmations along the way. This gate was handled differently than the first as God seemed to use different and more people to bring confirmation as to what was about to happen. The absence of both Ricky and Lucy seemed a bit odd, but the Lord uses any and all that He wills, so we moved ahead in full faith and confidence in the Lord.

The group looked at all of the verses concerning the fear of the Lord and discussed how they did or did not apply to the assignment of the night. We also briefly discussed the portion of the story of Nehemiah and the rebuilding of this portion of the wall. Richard was able to present a succinct teaching on the spiritual representation of the gate which resonated within the group.

We read and discussed Psalm 24 which became the obvious declaration as we had multiple witness on this passage of scripture. As verse 1 states, “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.” We were in full agreement as everything we steward and all that we do is for Almighty God and His Kingdom. We were in full agreement right through to the end where verses 9 and 10 declare our desired result of the evening,

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

Psalms 24:9-10 KJV

As with each of these assignments, Wallace took a minute to sober the group with a realization of the serious nature of the assignment. Each individual had to make the call as to whether they were going to proceed to the site of the gate or remain back and be a prayer covering over those going out. It wasn’t something to go out and do to simply satisfy a curiosity. One was only to go if God was calling or instructing the person to go. If not instructed to go, then staying back was the best option for one’s own sake as well as for the sake of the group. We agreed upon the following summary:

  • We are seeking the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord to be released in City Name.
  • We are seeking a spirit of repentance in City Name.
  • We are seeking the Lord’s righteousness and justice in City Name.

  • We are to open a gate by which this may enter into City Name.
  • We are to seek God for the address of said gate.
  • We are to seek God’s timing in dealing with said gate.
  • We are to seek God’s chosen method for dealing with said gate.

  • When we do this work, we are to walk in full faith.
  • When we do this work, we are to walk in full unity.
  • When we do this work, it is all about Christ and the Kingdom, not us.

So the gate was determined, the time was now and the process was simple. At approximately 7:15 PM, Duke, Richard and Wallace headed to the prescribed location while Roberta and Darryl went before the throne on behalf of the work that was about to be done. We parked the car and stood behind it in the parking lot. We reviewed the reasons for the selection of this area, pointing out various aspects mentioned earlier. It was a very pleasant night weather-wise; a comfortable upper 20’s temp and a few flakes of snow from an extremely light flurry in the area. A sense of praise was in the air.

A brief opening prayer asked the Lord to open this gate and pour out His Spirit upon City Name that would lead to a great harvest for the Kingdom of God.

The 3 men then together read aloud Psalm 24 as a declaration of the Lord coming into this land through this open gate as the King of Glory! All was His and all is His. This was followed with the reading of Acts 9:31 expressing our request for another desired result of the people following after the King of Glory.

Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

Acts 9:31 KJV

We then declared praise and thanksgiving in conclusion as Duke splattered some oil in the area where we were standing. Duke then went to extreme excitement as he looked up and saw into the spiritual realm as our supplication was immediately responded to by God. It was 7:30 PM as we got back into the car to rejoin the prayer team. We had a brief discussion on the night and after some closing prayer we headed for home. All was done by approximately 8:00 PM.
