Through the ages of humanity, the land has been defiled through many things including crimes of evil and wickedness, including the taking of life, as well as acts of immorality, both physical and spiritual. It all began with Cain and Abel, at least that is the first recorded example we have in the Bible.
And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
Genesis 4:8-10 KJV
The land cries out for justice and needs to be cleansed and sanctified. Creation awaits the time of such a cleansing to be set free from the curse.
For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Romans 8:19-23 KJV
